Purchase loans accounted for 59% of originations during the first quarter, down from 72% in Q1 2024. The company touted that its preliminary organic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.housingwire.com\/tag\/refinancing\/\">refinance<\/a> consumer-direct recapture rate increased to 65%, compared to 59% in Q1 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The first quarter also saw <a href=\"https:\/\/www.housingwire.com\/articles\/anthony-hsieh-returns-to-loandepot-as-frank-martell-departs\/\">the return<\/a> of loanDepot founder and executive chairman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.housingwire.com\/tag\/anthony-hsieh\/\">Anthony Hsieh<\/a> to the day-to-day operations at the California-based lender. During the company\u2019s earnings call, it was reiterated that current CEO <a href=\"https:\/\/www.housingwire.com\/tag\/frank-martell\/\">Frank Martell<\/a> is set to transition to a board advisory role on June 4, and Hsieh will assume the interim CEO role at that time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would like to thank Team loanDepot for their dedication and support over these past three years,\u201d Martell said. \u201cTogether as a team, we addressed the realities of the market while investing in critical systems, products, and processes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese investments will allow loanDepot to take advantage of our marketplace differentiators in this and upcoming cycles, as well as to continue to deliver a best-in-class customer experience. As a result, loanDepot\u2019s net loss of $40.7 million was down 43% compared to its $71.5 million loss in Q1 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Chief financial officer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.housingwire.com\/articles\/top-executives-to-leave-loandepot-amid-business-line-consolidation\/\">David Hayes<\/a> said the company is \u201cenergized\u201d by Hsieh\u2019s return.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur strategy for hedging the servicing portfolio is dynamic, and we adjust our hedged positions in reaction to changing and straight environments,\u201d Hayes said. \u201cOur total expenses for the first quarter of 2025 increased by $12 million, or 4%, from the prior year quarter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe primary drivers of the increase were for higher volume-related commission, direct origination and marketing expenses. Our non-volume-related expenses decreased $7 million [during] the same period, \u2026 reflecting our ongoing cost management discipline and lower <a href=\"https:\/\/www.housingwire.com\/articles\/cyberattack-at-loandepot-affects-17m-individuals-with-up-to-17m-in-expenses\/\">cyber-related costs<\/a>,\u201d Hayes said.<\/p>\n<p>loanDepot\u2019s expectations for Q2 2025 include an origination volume of $5 billion to $7.5 billion.
